This is the
terrible cover I made for this year’s Nanowrimo project. My friend kindly let me use one of her pictures and I added a very bland generic title. The story is set on an island in my fantasy world; this particular island was populated by British settlers and they brought with them some of the myths and beliefs from the Old World.
In Shurwud forest, there is a village, protected by magic so those wishing to do the inhabitants harm cannot discover it on their own. Alys (Sarah Bolger) wanders into the village during their spring celebration and her curiosity leads to return on a daily basis, much to Mari’s displeasure. Mari (Rose Lesley) is the youngest daughter of the leader of the village, Robin Loxley. Their relationship is strained and watching her father and older siblings all but adopt Alys into the family leaves a bitter taste in Mari’s mouth. However, as she and Alys discover their similarities and begin a friendship, they notice that all is not as it should be in Thornton, Alys’s home. Despite the risks, the girls begin to investigate in the hopes that they can bring peace to the now fear-ridden village.
*I did the editing on the cover picture, but the character pictures aren’t mine. Picking actors to portray my characters is just one of those fun things I like to do when I’m planning a story; it helps me visualize them better and gives me inspiration.
